Step 1. Begin immediately, Contact at least 5 potential internship locations weekly.
Step 2. Create a 60 Sec. Commercial to sell your skills (click here) for "how-to". Step 3. Practice what you are going to say with an adult. Better to overcome your nerves before a real interview. Step 4. Understand your constraints. (Ex: If you take Metro, make sure you pick a location you can get to by 8:30 AM) Step 5. Make sure your parents agree to your internship location. They must sign the agreement. Step 6. Use the list provided above as a starting point. It is NOT a guaranteed internship. Some of the contact info may have changed. Step 7. Use Google. Type in your desired career + zip code. Google will give you a listing of businesses and contact info matching your search. Step 8. NETWORK! Ask friends, family, business relations to help. Step 9. If contact says they don't have an internship, politely thank them and ask if they know of anyone who does. Step 10. Do not procrastinate! It will take you longer than you think. |
